Bears in Hot Tubs
Bears in Hot Tubs is an intimate short film co-created with Maddie Bear and her kin. Set in suburban Los Angeles, it reveals black bears as sentient neighbors navigating a shared landscape. Through poetic imagery and quiet observation, the film reimagines coexistence as an invitation to co-thrive with care, empathy, and respect.
Wolf Ranger
Currently in development, The Wolf Ranger is a documentary film project following the people, wolves, cattle, and working landscapes of Project GRIPH’s Co-Thriving Carnivore Corridor Co-Op in the Western United States. Filmed over multiple seasons, the project will document the quiet, often unseen work of preventing conflict through range riding, attentive livestock management, and sustained human presence. Rather than framing wolves as a problem to be solved, the film will explore what changes when ranchers and range riders take responsibility for creating conditions in which livestock, predators, and people can share the same landscape. Through long-term observation, camera traps, field research, and multispecies storytelling, the Wolf Ranger will capture co-thriving not as an abstract idea, but as a living practice unfolding in real time.
Kissing Sharks
“Kissing Sharks?” “Kissing Sharks” explores the unique shark–human relationships co-developed by Cristina Zenato and a shiver of Bahamian reef sharks through a post-anthropocentric lens. Drawing on participatory action research, grounded theory techniques, and qualitative methodologies, the project examines how collaboration between a practitioner and an academic researcher can generate deeper insight into sharks as ethically significant beings and challenge the normative lenses through which sharks and shark–human relationships are rhetorically constructed.”
Shifting Waters
Shifting Waters explores how humans and sharks share the same waters in very different ways. Moving between science, lived experience, and Indigenous knowledge, the film reveals that co-thriving with sharks is already happening, we just haven’t been paying attention to the places where it works.
