Who We Are
AnthroZooCo is a research and practice-based organization working at the intersection of anthrozoology, advocacy, and applied multispecies ethics. We conduct participatory action research that supports animals as co-participiants, not research subjects, and seeks transformative change across communities and disciplines.

Bears in Hot Tubs
Bears in Hot Tubs is an intimate short film co-created with Maddie Bear and her kin. Set in suburban Los Angeles, it reveals black bears as sentient neighbors navigating a shared landscape. Through poetic imagery and quiet observation, the film reimagines coexistence as an invitation to co-thrive with care, empathy, and respect.
Co-Thriving
Co-Thriving is a bold, hopeful vision for restoring a shared future, not just peaceful “coexistence,” but genuine flourishing together of humans and wildlife. It centers on empathy, mutual respect, and non-lethal range management so wolves, livestock, and people can all thrive. It’s a living practice and emerging theory uniting fieldwork, research, and real-world care across the Western United States.
Kissing Sharks
“Kissing Sharks,” focuses on the unique shark-human relationships co-developed by Cristina Zenato and a shiver of Bahamian Caribbean Reef sharks. The project examines the origins, evolution, and impact of Cristina’s ‘shark-listening’ approach, aiming to contribute to reshaping societal perceptions of sharks.
